Youth Art Show Information

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Pioneer Cellular Smokin’ Red Dirt Arts Festival YOUTH ART SHOW.

April 20-21st, 2012 - Cherokee Strip Conference Center, Enid OK

This is a great opportunity for Enid and Northwest Oklahoma students in grades 6th - 12th to showcase their artistic talent and win prizes and recognition for themselves and supplies for their schools at the same time! Pioneer Celluar is proud to announce that they will once again donate back to the school of each winning student.  Students’ artwork will be displayed at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center, Friday and Saturday April 20-21st, 2012.

In association with the Pioneer Cellular Smokin’ Red Dirt Arts Festival, the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is looking forward to seeing your work in their museum! That’s right! The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center wants to exhibit YOUR artwork!

The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is offering gallery space to be the exhibit location for the top prizewinners of the youth competition.  All of the competitors who receive 1st thru 5th place in the various categories as well as the student who receives the “Harold T. Holden” award from Honorary Judge, H. Holden, will be exhibited from April 17th - 30th  in the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation Gallery of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center.  The prizewinners, their parents, and their teachers will also be attending a special reception at the Heritage Center to open the exhibit on Tuesday, April 17th .

In order to be eligible for this honor, we are requesting that your artwork reflect the mission of the Heritage Center.  The theme chosen for this inaugural year is “Cherokee Strip Horizons.” Given the scope of the landscape, people, and history of the Cherokee Strip and changes, which have redefined ‘horizons’ over the 119 years, you have a broad range of subject matter, stylistic influence, and interpretive viewpoint to choose from.

Our Honorary Judge Harold T. Holden will judge student artwork.

Primarily known as a cowboy artist, Harold T. Holden or “H” as he is known to most folks, has been capturing the West in sculptures and paintings for over 35 years.  While his work can be found in the Oklahoma State Capitol and on a U. S. Postage Stamp, his public sculptures have kept him busy the last few years with 20 monuments completed in the last 20 plus years. .  In 2007 he was featured in a one man show at the Museum of Western Colorado in Grand Junction and was a featured artist at the 2009 American Royal Art Show in Kansas City. His work can be seen at www.hholden.com.

“ I am looking forward again to judging the wonderful art entries submitted by the students.  It is always a difficult choice to pick one piece of art as the Juror’s choice. Every year the participants up their submissions and continue to surprise and impress me with their creativity, design and composition.”

H. T. Holden
